Redeemer
The Redentore is certainly one of the most felt festivities amongst Venetians. Nevertheless a festivity that draws to the city thousands of visitors there to see the awe inspiring pyrotechnic night show where for one night sky and water become one.
The third Sunday in July is the day chosen for the solemn mass presided by the Patriarch and followed by religious processions. But the most awaited moment of this festivity is the night between Saturday and Sunday: on the spectacular stage represented by the lagoon in front of Saint Mark lights and colors sprinkle behind spires, domes and the bell towers of the city.
Tradition wants that all day long until sunset boats, embellished with leafy branches, colored balloons and illuminations begin to gather in the basin opposite Saint Mark and the Giudecca Canal.
On board or on improvised tables everyone enjoys an abundant supper prepared with the dishes of the Venetian tradition. After the show the boats slowly start their way home or following the tradition they all go waiting for dawn at the beach of the Lido.
